Forum 1|1 is the technology and competence centre at Flugfeld Böblingen/Sindelfingen.
An industrial and services park is being developed on the approx. 80 hectare development area at the A81 motorway, which will be used for a variety of purposes such as production close to the city, services, research, education, residential and green areas. Approx. 7,000 jobs will be created at the airfield within the next 20 years; in addition, 1,600 accommodation units with roughly 4,000 inhabitants are planned.
The foundation stone for Forum 1 was laid on 29 April 2010. The building will be an architectural gem and correspond to the state-of-the-art requirements of offices. It is unique and exclusively directed at offering optimal growth conditions for the companies who will locate there. The concentration of high-quality companies is crucial for the dynamic growth – the principle is networking. Academics, engineers and business managers will work next to each other. This is the concept and thus new ideas can be optimally developed.
It is certain that the Forum 1 will become a competence and technology centre for the aerospace industry. With the Forum for the aerospace industry, Baden-Württemberg will become a representative of the sunrise industries which are of great importance for the region and are guaranteeing jobs for the future. In addition, an academy for aerospace is planned in conjunction with universities and colleges.
The Flugfeld association will be the main tenant of the building for the next ten years. The users include, in addition to the forum for aerospace in Baden-Württemberg, a business centre operator, an office for project management and various other smaller tenants. Also the offices of the Flugfeld association will be moved into the newly constructed building. In order to maintain the vacancy rate as low as possible, it is planned to implement the project over two construction phases. In the first phase, 7,300 square metres of rentable space will be created, in the other an additional 2,600 square metres. Thanks to the direct proximity to the Meilenwerk and the future pedestrian underpass for the connection of the Flugfeld to the S-Bahn (suburban rail) and the town centre of Böblingen, a good demand for the spaces in Forum 1 is expected.
The opening should take place in May 2011.
